Glossary of Technical Terms
UAT (User Acceptance Testing)
The final testing phase where real end-users validate software functionality against business requirements.
UDP (User Datagram Protocol)
A lightweight, connectionless communications protocol prioritized for extremely low-latency transfers where occasional dropped packets are acceptable.
UI (User Interface)
The visual layout explicitly encompassing every interactive element a user securely engages seamlessly with on a web page.
Underfitting
A deeply problematic modeling failure distinctly occurring exactly when an active machine learning algorithm entirely fails securely to deeply capture the specific underlying structural trend completely within the active training data.
Unique Constraint
A strict database rule forcefully ensuring that all data actively inserted into a designated column or set of columns is absolutely distinct.
Unsupervised Learning
A highly complex machine learning algorithmic paradigm definitively operating strictly on massively unstructured, completely unannotated digital data precisely to strictly discover deeply hidden intrinsic structural patterns entirely autonomously.
Update
A minor software release containing bug fixes, security patches, or small improvements for an existing application.
Upgrade
A major replacement or transition of hardware, software, or firmware to a newer, significantly improved version.
UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
An electrical apparatus providing instantaneous emergency battery power to critical hardware when the primary input power source inevitably fails.
Upsert
A highly efficient database operation actively combining update and insert logic, inserting a row if it does not exist, or heavily updating it if it does.
URL (Uniform Resource Locator)
A reference address for a web resource that specifies its exact location on a computer network.
Usability Testing
Evaluating how intuitive, efficient, and user-friendly a software application is through direct user observation.
USB (Universal Serial Bus)
A ubiquitous industry standard for cables, connectors, and communication protocols between computers and peripherals.
USB-C
A ubiquitous 24-pin connector system distinguished physically by a two-fold rotationally symmetrical connector, designed for rapid data transfer and high-wattage charging.
User Story
A short, simple description of a software file or feature told from the perspective of the end user.
Utility Computing
A service provisioning model where computing resources are packaged and billed like traditional public utilities based on usage.
